Thinking about picking up early NG900 convertible... Posted by andrew [Email] (#1013) [Profile/Gallery] (more from andrew) on Thu, 30 Jan 2003 23:24:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'd like to have a convertible for the summer- just something to have a little fun with, probably sell it at the end of the summer. I don't have a budget in mind for the purchase price, but I don't want to spend more than $3000... but that includes purchasing the car, fixing what needs to be fixed, and selling it for hopefully near what I paid for it. (I guess I want to spend less than $10,000 on the initial price, hopefully closer to $7000)
Anyway, I've always loved the NG900 bodystyle convertibles. I had a '99 9-3 5-door- one of the first- for 4 years before selling it in May for an Audi (cringe! Couldn't wait for the NEW 9-3!).
A few questions regarding NG900 convertibles... I want the most basic, reliable 900 for cruising around every day with the top down. I'm thinking that I should get an S model with the regular 2.0. I know it'll be a little slow, but it should be fine and there is no turbo to worry about. I know that the V6 should be avoided for optimal reliability.
In terms of reliability, what's better- the 5-speed or the automatic? I don't really car which one it has. How reliable is the aircon? Is it as strong as my 9-3's was? Any sure-fire problems to look for? I've done a little research here and haven't found too much specific to convertibles. I'm looking mostly at '95s and '96s. As 1995 was the first year for the convertible, were there a lot more problems?
Thanks a ton!
