Oil pressure light flickering

Things aren't looking so good for our 1995 900S convertible (2.3L automatic, 126k miles).

I noticed last night and this morning that the oil pressure light would flicker when the car was idling after it was fully warmed up. There have been no untoward noises at all, ever, from this engine. It seems when the idle fluctuates toward the low end of the range the light will flicker. Keep in mind the idle doesn't wander much, it just fluctuates slightly (when coming to a stop, putting it in gear, cooling fans come on, etc.).

It does not happen when the car is cold.
Also, I do not think that the screen is clogged as adding some STP (gasp!) this morning kept the light off.
That me makes me think the there is oil pump wear or bearing wear. Caused by Balance shaft wear. I will do an oil change tonight and see the condition of the oil and filter (itr is due in a few hundred miles anyway).

Any thoughts on what is goin on?
