I have a 1998 900S 2.3l 5-door, manual, 80k miles.

My distributor cap has always seeped a little oil. I had exactly the same problem with my C900, so I did not think much of it.

All of a sudden, I open the hood today during a refueling stop. I see that the transmission case is covered with oil. I also see some oil on the front body rail (is that what it's called?) As far as I can tell, it is coming from the same old distributor leak, except now it is more significant. I think. The lower half of the distributor cap is covered with oil and it looks to be directly above the oil spill on the gearbox housing.

Is it the consensus that there is nothing that can be done about this leak, except a new distributor? It is definitely *not* the external o-ring leaking, as that area is completely dry. The oil comes only from under the distributor cap.

I have read that if the PCV system cloggs up, it can increase the leak from the distributor. Has anyone been able to slow the leak by cleaning out their PCV system? Where does it get clogged up?

Can I just wipe off the oil, clean inside the distributor cap and forget about the leak? Is it going to damage anything else in there? Of course, I understand that I must keep an eye on the oil level.
