Remove the cap and loosen the #1 plug a few turns. Have an assistant bump the starter until you get the timing mark on TDC. If it's a manual trans you can put it in 5th and push/pull the car by hand to turn the engine for fine adjustment. Make sure you hear air hissing at the #1 plug because the timing mark hits TDC on both 1 & 4. The air escaping #1 indicates the compression stroke. Also observe which way the rotor turns.
look at the cap and look at where the rotor is pointing. Insert the #1 wire in the corresponding post in the cap. from there just insert the #3 wire in the next post in the direction of rotation of the rotor and so on.
