your Q is a multi part one...
1. if you upgrade the system, say from an "s" to an "se" upgrade, the amp is used for the front door speakers only, they are crossed over to be mid-bass and the dash are only mid-highs. The amp is connected to the head unit by a propietary SAAB connector. The amp is only 20 watts or so, but compliments the system nicely and you will like it better WITH than WITHOUT.
2. The Fader: the fader in the above scenario will do F/R, but the door and dash function as a unit, and faded to the rear will just give you rear.
3. Others have given ideas about custom wiring and amps for ALL the speakers, others replaced the sub amp for something more powerful. I love the idea of mid-bass subs in the door panels, I installed DIGITAL DESIGNS in mine, which are on of the greatest unheard of speakers there are. American made, 6.5" drivers with huge magnets, these hit hard with only the stock Saab amp I have in my 96 SETC. Of course, I miss my 89 900SET, which had Altec Lansings in dash, custom 5.25 components in the doors, 6X9 in the rear shelf, an 18" free-air sub that fired through the pass-through, with 3 amps off of a Sony head with CD. Unfortunately, you cant do as much with the stock head, but I am 36 now...lol just give me a LITTLE bass and some watts and that will do. Hope this helps some.
