Stuck accelerator - preventive tips? Posted by IanC [Email] (#139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IanC) on Sun, 16 Feb 2003 16:39:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Had a scary experience yesterday - accelerating with the pedal to the floor to merge onto a busy insterstate the pedal stayed down. Car is a 96 SETC with 128K miles. Futzing with the pedal while using braking got it unstuck, and conservative driving prevented recurrence. Today I did some dignostic work (always a joy at 10 F - been a cold winter here in SE Mass). The pedal stayed down when floored and so did the throttle control when manually worked. There was some whitish corrosion on the spring, and a little WD-40 and actuation freed the mechanism up considerably. Took it on a test drive and all is well so far.
Now for the questions - is there anything more long term I should be doing? Can I expect the lubed up throttle to stay safe for now? Research on alldatadiy found a safety recall for the throttle bushing corroding and sticking open. Cars which had been reworked were supposed to have had a campaign badge punched, but I haven't found anything like that in the car. Where would it be?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ian - used to post as just Ian but I've seen other people with the same name posting so I thought I should use an initial.
