The stupid self adjusting machanism on the cables are trouble prone. Sounds like you have one that is messed up and should be replaced. Also the clutch job you had done should have made the cluth a LOT easier to depress. I have seen these clutches go out as early as 50k miles. It seems that the clutch gets hard to push from wear then ruins the self adjuster on the cable requiring the clutch and cable to be replaced to get everything to work correctly. There is an update on the cable if it is really giving you problems. There is a way to set the adjuster, they say to depress the pedal then slide your foot off of the pedal a few times to "set " the adjuster on the cable. Sometimes that works but usually just breaks the cruise control switch on the clutch pedal.
