Hmmnnn. Could be the shifter linkage. How many miles does your Saab have on it?? Original shifter? May be worth it to replace it--but if you do, go with the 9^3 linkage.
The other possibility may be more sinister. I had problems at 39K with getting my Saab in reverse and keeping her there (became very well acquainted with the e-brake.)Saab replaced reverse gear for us. (The orginal gearbox finally commited suicide at 90K when the pinion shaft snapped going into 5th on the hiway--not an experience I'd care to repeat.) My friend and mechanic says that Saab had problems early on with 5 speed gearboxes in the NGs--the shifter throw was too short, so reverse gear didn't completely engage, which resulted in a chewed up reverse gear. As the 95s went through the production line, Saab made improvements to the gearboxes.
This makes sense--I still have the reman gearbox in the car, and she has 206K on the clock. (Saab paid for the new gearbox, by the way.)
I'd start with the shifter linkage and go on from there.
Good luck!
