In my old 87 900S. It had been on its way out for 2 months or so, thought I needed new tires. I put new tires on, no better. I just kept driving it for months, still thinking it was the tires. It was either take the Saab with the bad bearing or my mom's Suburban (yuck) to prom, so the Saab it was. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR it went the whole way there and RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR the whole way back. Lucky my girlfriend always liked that car, 'cause believe me it didn't sound too 'elegant'.
Don't know what made me realize it was the bearing, but let me tell you, after getting that thing replaced, driving that car was the most euphoric feeling, like floating silently along on a cloud. Man, was I happy. Unfortunately, that evening, I saw the first puff of blue smoke from the exhaust and that was the beginning of the end for my beloved '87. Now she sits at home behind my house, waiting to be sold or restored. And I'm stuck with my relatively bland 95 900S. I will always hold a place in my heart for that old car.
