I just thought I'd share my experiences yesterday with switching over to Saab's late 1997 synthetic transmission oil. The fill, level, and drain plugs were all on freakishly tight. To get the fill plug off, I used a 1/4" drive 8mm hex bit on an 18" long 3/8" extension, connected to a 1/2" drive breaker bar (with adapters of course). For the fill and level plugs I used a Craftsman long-arm 8mm hex key with a 1' piece of conduit slipped over the end as an extension. Saab has a new 24mm hex-head filler cap stamped with the synthetic oil part number which went on fairly easily with a 24mm 1/2" socket, extension, and breaker bar, but all of it barely cleared the ABS brake lines. I also found out that if you take the left front wheel off, you can get to the level plug with an 8mm hex socket, a 1' extension, and a ratchet. The transmission shifts a little smoother, and the oil shouldn't need changing for a long time, so it was probably worth it.
