Check engine light, poor mileage, best guesses?

I've searched the archives, and discovered a wealth of info on this pesky CEL - but I thought I would throw my question into the ring anyway.
Car: 96 setc, 90k miles, run 87 octane fuel.
Symptom: Check engine light came on, stays on, no flashes w/key in On position. Noticed mileage was decreasing, now it is down to 15mpg city driving.
1 year old DI cassette, battery clean and tight, vacuum hoses look good, temp guage goes straight up to 9:00, idles and runs flawlessly. Will add techron fuel system cleaner with next tank of fuel, recent oil change.
Possibilities? Bad 02 Sensor (or bad sensor ground), bad ECU connection, hidden vacuum hose leak, faulty DI cassette. Any others? Any favorites? Will get fault code read for $68 bucks if I can't track it down with simple trial and error. Thanks to all responders...
