The problem was that on my 1995 900 SET convertible when closing the top, it would stop in the middle of the movement and I would have to play with the switch up and down in order to close it. This happened 1 year ago and I took it to the Saab dealer to get it fixed. They have reprogrammed the top movement and it was fine for 6 months. The problem appeared again after 6 months. I took it back to the dealer and after doing the same procedure the mechanic told me that I have to replace the computer that controls the top movement.

It seem weird to me that such a part would break down and since it costs $1100 for a new computer, I decide to try to get a used one. At this time the problem was happening randomly. I got the part from a scrap yard for $250 and made an appointment to the dealer to get the new computer installed and reprogrammed. When I made the appointment, I mentioned that I need this specific job to be done since I know that they only have one guy that knows how to work on the convertible top. I took the car to the dealer Wednesday morning and I got a call back later in the afternoon. They told me that the specialist in on vacation and the mechanic who tried to work on my top gave up since he did not know what to do anymore.

The dealer told me that I have to pick up my car and came back next week (this week) in order to have the specialist look at it. The dealer also mentioned that he will not charge me for the work done on my can since nothing was fixed. To my surprise, when I came to pick up the car, the top was not closing anymore, the lower part of the top frame that closes on the toneau cover was bent in two places and the toneau latches were not aligned anymore so the top could not close. I was mad.... really mad... I told them that this is ridiculous since they are supposed to know what they are doing. I did not take the car back and told them that I need that car to be fixed in order for me to take it back. I left the car there over the weekend and got a call on Monday that the specialist look at it and after trying to install the new top computer, he found that the new part that I have brought is also defective.

This is ridiculous. It seems impossible to me, so therefore, I asked them to order themselves the part in order to have it installed again. New I got stuck buying a $1100 computer. I passed by yesterday and made myself clear that if this does not fix the problem, I would not pay for the part. I am afraid that the computer is not the problem and that I got stuck being a new computer for nothing. This is very frustrating and time consuming on my side. I really wish that I had a Tech II since no one seems to know how the 1995-95 top computer works. They are all swapping parts and killing my nerves and my wallet with this problem.

Best Regards Everyone,

Joe_MTL
