It's very important to clean the surface good with some kind of degreaser so that the JB weld sticks.
The other option to repair it the right way is to replace the whole timing cover, and that's a whole other ball park of money.
When the bearing goes in those water pumps, the pulley is always going to cut into the timing cover because of the serpentine belt tension.
Clearance is minimal.
