I did a MC rebuild on a Volvo once. It was the dual piston type for the dual hydraulics, so not too simple. The rubber cup seals were worn from corosion in the MC. I probably caused the damage doing brake bleeds and pushing the petal to the floor, which is the wrong thing to do.

I got the new pistons with seals. I cleaned up the MC with some fine wet-dry sand paper to remove the rough bits with water and then washed and baked dry.

I did not have to bleed the system. I hooked up the MC and then pushed the caliper pistons in, there were 10 of them! This backfilled the MC and that worked perfectly. So thats my hint when doing this work. If you has newish pads, you might remove them and put a spacer in place and move pump the piston out. Then you will have more fluid to push back.
