Is it a V6, or a turbo? I think it's more likely for him to mistakenly think it's a V6, because you can tell from the instrument panel if it's a turbo or not. There would be a turbo gauge. Here is a sample VIN decoding:
Y
S
3
D Car line: Saab 900
D Market: Model series II
3 Body type: 3 door
5 Gearbox: 5 speed manual
N Engine: B204L inline 4, Turbo
3 Check digit
V Model year: 1997 (1994 would be R)
2 Plant number: Trollhatten, Sweden, line B
Remaining six digits are the serial number.
If you have the VIN, I can tell you if it's a V6 or a turbo. If the Engine digit is an N though, you know it's a turbo.
