tranny oil change success Posted by TML [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
After completely stripping the head of the fill plug, I managed to get it loose with the hammer/chisel method described here (thanks guys). I had to take out the battery to get the chisel in position, and I had to borrow a homemade chisel (old, large, sharpened screwdriver blade) from the guy across the street. A regular chisel is not long enough.
The problem with this plug was a combination of being way too tight, and inability to get access (there is an aluminium tube right above the plug, preventing you from getting the 8mm hex bit in at the right angle). The new plug is a 24mm external hex head, which was interesting as well. Due to the tube, you cannot fit a socket on the plug, therefore I had to use an adjustable wrench that was only capable of going 1/12 of a turn at a time. Does anyone know if they make a 24mm ratchet wrench?
The drain plug was on just as tight, as I needed a 2 foot snipe on the end of an allan key (which almost broke under the strain). The enormous crack sound almost blasted out an ear drum when the plug finally broke loose. There's no room to get a ratchet and bit on this one.
Anyway, I now have Redline MTL in there, and my car is obviously much faster. It stiffened up the suspension as well so I can corner better as well. Braking is also much improved. And it makes my breakfast for me.
