Water in trunk BUT with a twist

3 days of severe thunderstorms and tornados in Atlanta and I've got wet carpet in the trunk. I pulled the side panels away and everything was dry... antenna and sunroof hoses were intact and in place. SO Off to the car wash with me in the hatch. As it turns out, the water was collecting in the "well" where the hatch latches. Back home I took the trim off the inside of the hatch door and found the water was seeping in where one of the studs that I assume holds the rear glass in comes through.
How tight should the nuts on those studs be? They were all quite loose but since they hold the glass I don't want to overtighten anything and crack the glass.
I appreciate any and all insights!
