Having trouble replacing my SAAB... advice? <long> Posted by Nicholas [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hi all,
Some of you may remember last summer I was involved in an accident where I a woman hit me broadside after running a red and my wonderfully cherry Black 1996 900SET Coupe was totaled. Long story short, she lied about it, no witnesses and thus no insurance money for me (I only had basic insurance, being unable to affford comprehensive on a SAAB at 17 {parents don't help with cars at all, they think I am silly, maybe I am}). Well now after a year at University (McGill in Montreal) and a lot of hard work, I'm ready to replace my baby, and make it to the SOC that I didn't make it to last year. SAAB's are my passion and hobby (still get to work on my friend's, all of whom bought them after seeing my own), so I am quite serious about this. This will be the second time I've worked too much to buy this. I know that I am being picky because I am trying to find another 1996-1998 900SE 5spd Turbo coupe, but I've been actively searching for at least a month. I want the same general car (NG900) because I still own the original in its totaled condition and would use it for parts (stills runs great!). I'm getting very frustrated because I think that when I contact dealerships (ie Portland SAAB, Herb Chambers in Boston, Tracy Banks in Concord or even Saabnet sponsor SAABS.com in Amherst, NH) they apparently think I am not a serious buyer probably because of my age(19)and being a college student. In fact despite multiple emails and phone calls, only SAABS.com even replied, and the reply to their "Find me a SAAB form" using Auto Broker's Unlimited, which I filled out sometime ago was a just a meager "Nothing in stock now, keep checking the website". Apparently the form is misnamed.
Can any fellow SAABer's out there offer any advice as to how I speed up this process? How rare are the coupes, how'd you find yours? Anyone know a HELPFUL dealer in the New Englad area? How about a nice used SAAB coupe for sale somewhere? I check the internet (autotrader, ebay and of course the SAABnet classifieds) daily and have bought classified magazines. I wanted to buy one in Gardner Mass., a 1997 900SE, but I had to return to Montreal for a weekend and the owner sold it before I got back. I am getting to the point that I worry I am going to break down and buy some Ford or Chevy just to stop riding my bike to work everyday.
As always thanks for all the help guys and girls, and I apologize that this turned into a bit of a frustrated rant.
Thanks,
Nick
