Aisin Warner makes automatics for Lexus, Toyaota, Volvo, etc.
No problems with the transmissions, but a potential problem with the gear selector switch. This switch is located on top of the transmission and is connected to the shift lever via a cable. The switch tells the electronically conatrolled transmission what gear you are in. This selector switch is prone to normal wear and tear, as well as a possible problem of thick grease in near or below freezing conditions. If the gear selector switch has problems deciding on the gear input, then the car throws a check gearbox light and goes into limp home mode. The vehicle may reset the check gearbox light on its own, but the problem will return. The result can be a need to replace the gear selector switch for a cost of about $500 USD (switch itself is over $250 USD).
Once the selector switch is replaced the symptoms seem to be gone for a long time, so probably only a one time problem.
