Did this not too long ago.

1) He says the 8mm bolts have little clearance. So I'm figuring my set of bits for a 3/8 drive aren't going to fit...Am I going to be custom grinding allen wrenches to shorten them ?

I did not need to cut any special tools. I used an allen wrench. On mine, once the bolts were broken loose, it was easy to turn. However with the allen wrench I could only turn 1/8 turn at a time. That takes time especially when you have to feel how fit the tool (no way to see). So after a while i took a screw with an 8mm head and put a short bit of hose on and used that to twist the bolt with my hands.

2) Remove from the bottom or out the top....what's the latest view ?

I did the top. Top strut brace has to be undone (but not completely removed). Also be careful with hoses wires and the cruise control thingamajig. I think it requires the least other stuff removal through top.

3) I have the "long pulley" alternator. Do rebuilts usually come with the pulley or do you usually swap the pulleys? If swap, then any tricks to make this easier ?

Mine came with the pulley. I first got the wrong kind with short pulley. It's just not to switch short to long. The shaft is longer as well. There's a nut for the pulley and the shaft has an allen on it. You need a socket where you can insert an allen wrench in it. I could not find one. Hopefully you will get the pulley with it (most likely).

Also I took the top mount bracket off and the tensioner arm for the serp belt. I don't think I had too, but the top was squeezed between the mount bracket so I thought I would break something if i tried to pry too hard.

Anyhoo, good luck.
