Lesson from my experience Friday Posted by IanC [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Brakes, Dean, Sun, 1 Jun 2003 15:10:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
is to heed Dean's advice on the rotor locking screw. Use a liquid wrench type penetrating oil liberally prior to trying them. If you use an impact screwdriver, test it first to ensure it works. The one I purchased from Sears was defective - when I hit it it did not rotate. Unfortunately, I did not realize this until after I had tried it a few times. Put it on something hard and push down on it sharply/hit it with a hammer. It should rotate to the left.
One rotor screw took 30 seconds to remove, one took 3 hours (I didn't help myself by breaking a screw extracter in the bolt). If you need one, I highly recommend the four sided ones instead of the spiral ones.
Other than the mess I mostly caused by myself, aided by the defective impact screwdriver, it was a fairly easy job to replace both front calipers, pads, and rotors. The parts cost after core charges was about $250 and I got parts overnight from eEuroparts (I live in Mass, though, and they are in CT so shipping was easy).
Good luck with your car. I've had mine a year and still really love it!
