'96 Clutch Cable Woes Posted by IanC [Email] (#139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IanC) on Mon, 2 Jun 2003 11:18:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just had a scary experience with my 96 SETC which has 133K on it. The transmission locked up at a stop sign and I couldn't get the car in gear. The friction point had moved slowly downwards while running errands so I knew the adjuster wasn't working right. Since I read this board avidly, I knew how to fix it by pulling on the spring, which I was able to do and get myself home. The clutch felt like new after pulling on the spring - I definitely felt it snap into position.
My question is, how do I ensure this doesn't happen again? This cable has about 8,000 miles on it so I'm not too happy with it. I've read of some cables going early and others lasting a long time. Is there anything I can do to fix the one I've got or is replacement my best bet?
Any insight from the experts on this board would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Ian
