This morning on my way to work my clutch cable broke. I was about 1/4 mile from work and 1/2 mile from the Saab dealer (Kuni Saab, Beaverton OR). I have AAA and wouldn't be concerned normally, but today is the Saab Proving Grounds in Auburn, WA; a 2.5 hour drive from Portland but one I'm determined to make.
It broke about 9:10 AM. I popped the hood, sure enough the cable was broken (the knob on the end was gone). Called the dealer 1/2 mile away, they said the could have me fixed up by 2:PM if I got the car there by 10. Called AAA at 9:20 and got off the phone with them at 9:25. At 9:35 the tow truck arrived... amazingly prompt service! Fifteen minutes later the car was in the service drive at Kuni Saab, where Deb assured me she'd do her best to get me on the road by 2:00 today. Their courtesy shuttle dropped me off at work at 10:00 today, and at 11:50 AM Deb called me back to tell me the clutch cable was replaced and the car was ready to roll! All for $146 including my $30 off coupon (yes, labor on cars is expensive).
I picked up the car and now I'm taking off for the Saab Proving Grounds! I owe thanks to this BB for letting me know to expect the clutch cable to be a wear item, and also a huge thanks to Kuni Saab and AAA/ProTow for taking care of me so promptly today.
I'm hitting the road. you all have a great day!
