I used pliers to remove one end of the spring, it goes into a hole in the caliper. Pull one end out and the other is freed. I'd do one wheel at a time so you can look at the other wheel to get the orientation of the spring. Its kind of weird.
"Water pump slip joint wrench" - Channel lock pliers - I used a big pair to compress the piston
"Breaker bar" - I used a 1/2" or 3/4" steel pipe, about 2 feet long, as a breaker bar (or 'cheater bar') to get the caliper bolts off. They are in there with loctite and are torqued to 85 ft-lbs. I put the end of my ratchet in the bar and that gave me greater leverage. I recommend this highly if you are taking the caliper off, I would have been stuck without it.
Pay attention to Dean's notes about the rotor index bolt.
