I went with 215/50 after looking at the specs on TireRack and talking to them. I was going to go with Kumhos anyway, and they're one of the very few makes that even sell a 215/50.
If you take the envelope of the 225/45R17 as the 'max' (Taliaferro's HUGE BBS set there, 17x8), here's what you're left with in R16:
205/50, 205/55, 215/50, 225/45
The 215/55 is too big on paper (over on diameter -- people reported rubbing, although they fit 9-5s). Even closer is the 225/50, it's right on the edge in a 16", although the higher sidewall will flex more.
Again, I'm getting the 16s so I can use them later as snows on a hypothetical 9-5 Aero I'll be buying later this year, or I might have gone 15. I'm also parallel parking alot, so I want the extra width as well (protect the rims).
