Dean's covered the common problems, and michael p's are insightful. This is a moderately common problem if you search the archives. I don't have much to add, except to tell you that I have the same problem currently with my 1994 900 SE V6. I have not replaced the ignition switch yet, but I plan to do so on Saturday June 21.

If you search for some my old posts, you'll see that I had similar idiot light problems when the instrument panel went bad. But the engine never died in that case.

My current problem started with the idiot lights for a few days.... After stalling in traffic last week, I decided I was going to install a new switch. I quit driving it in favor of my 1987 Acura Legend and put some new Kumho Ecsta HP4 716 250/60 R15 tires on to boot. If I like 'em on the Acura, I'll put 'em on the Saab next season.
