Follow up: The nut that the bolt uses is loose and moved around in the pocket. I finally figured out that I could move the nut around and then was able to poke it out of the pocket using a paper clip and a piece of copper wire through the hole that is toward the side of the car--near where you can put a jack stand. It was VERY TEDIOUS, but I persisted and got it out to have a look. The threads were messed up so that the bolt could not grab hold. I could also tell that the nut had been spot welded in the pocket at some point. I turned the nut over, and the bolt would then start threading. I bought some JB Weld at Wal-Mart and am now endeavoring to use that to adhere the nut to the bottom of the pocket. I hope it works. I was able to put the nut back up in the pocket with the other side down which had the good threads. I'm hoping to get the bolt to thread in the morning. I'll give an update then. PLEASE PRAY! :-) b/c I cannot afford to pay someone to fix this, and I'm not even sure how someone would do it.
Kenn, 97, 900s, 143k and I hope to get a lot more!
