Pads will always touch, as far as I know Posted by IanC [Email] (#139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IanC) on Fri, 20 Jun 2003 03:32:36 In Reply to: Re: Front Brake Pad Clearance/Caliper Diagnosing, crystalgrower, Thu, 19 Jun 2003 19:22:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There is always pad contact with the rotor. That is set automatically by the braking system. When you replace pads and push the pistons into the caliper, the first few pumps of the brake pedal will feel very soft. Dean and others have posted that you should ensure you do not let the pedal go down too far, so I followed those instructions since they know what they are doing more than me.
I decided I had a stuck caliper because of pulling and vibration in the front end that got worse with speed. Check the caliper guide pins, they may be gunked up and not sliding smoothly.
Not to blow your day, but it is not uncommon for there to be bent wheels on Saabs. They would cause a noise as well as possible pulling or vibration at higher speeds.
Good luck! Saabs really are great cars, and I love driving mine!
