Sounds like you had a strange case. I haven't heard of this repair before. What connector did they apply it to? What engine do you have?
The CEL could be the result of something else. How do you know it's the same problem as before? I would stop by an Autozone and have them read the check engine light code since you have an OBD-II car. This is free. Then post back on the board once you know what the fault is.
I would not want to remove my check engine light in case something really went wrong. On "CarTalk" they sometimes tell people to put electrical tape over the display if it is annoying you. Besides, with an OBD-2 car in North Carolina, the new emissions tests (this year I think) will interact with the OBD-II logging in the vehicle, using a "history" of measurements and faults. So if the light is getting triggered, you may have to figure out the problem to pass the emissions inspection.
