I have the plastic bushing and it causes some frustration at times. Won't go into reverse most of the time unless the engine is turned off. All the other gears are fine.
There is lots of play in the old shift linkage so I tried to clean it up a bit. I wrapped wire around the shaft at the ends, right next to the metal washers. After a couple turns I twisted the ends like a twist-tie. This made the shifting feel less sloppy but didn't improve getting into reverse.
I'll eventually upgrade to the newer linkage when the agrivation factor gets high enough. From what I've read on this board it's only a matter of time.
