My fuel pump gave out too at about 120,000 miles on my 1996 900s. Of course it happens on the I-5, 100 miles from home, at 11:30 at night. Thank god for cell phones. I quickly found a local shop with 24 hour towing, my dad in law picked me up, and the car was ready with a new OEM pump in a few days. I'm not sure if that's what broke in your car, but your description matches mine. Driving, all lights on, but engine dies as if out of gas. Cranks no problem, but there's no gas to speak of.
Aparently, you can often temporarily revive the pump by hitting the bottom of the gas tank with your fist or rubber mallet . might work to get you home, if you are a DIY guy, you can probably change this yourself. The problem for me and maybe for you is that I was nowhere near home and just had to bite the bullet on the $500 parts, labor bill. Hope all goes well for you. P.S. you can order a pump from europarts, or the whole assembly, and they can ship it to whatever mechanic is close to your break down. At least it will be OEM, and cheaper than what they will have. But remember, you don't KNOW it's the fuel pump, I only suspect that it is. Good luck.
