After returning from Palm Springs last week, and Monterey yesterday I can tell you that:
a) Saabs in the heat are like Eskimos in the plains of Africa...not happy
b) At higher speeds, more air is flowing through the condenser so your cooling effect is increased; the opposite when you're puttering around town and little air is flowing through. In Palm Springs I basically had no A/C while driving around town but got it back once we were on the highway (At the peak it was 120 degrees out!)
c) This effect is multiplied when you have little load on the engine and lots of cooling air flowing through (coming down off of the Grapevine even though it's 100 degrees out, for example) My A/C went from cool to COLD in 10 seconds after cresting the El Cajon pass.
Once again, my logic may be flawed but it makes sense to me :)
