No secrets, just a lot of careful measuring. I placed the spoiler on the rear lip as carefully as possible with the bolts touching the lip of the hatch. Having lined up the spolier as carefully as possible, I pressed down on the spoiler over each of the bolts, so that the bolts would leave an impression on the lip of the rear hatch. Make sure to fit the spoiler so that the front of the spoiler (concave portion) overlaps the edge of the rear glass trim by 4mm. The key to getting a good fit is to drill the hole somewhat larger than the diameter of the bolt. The washer for the bolt is very large, so no worries there. Make to hole larger so that you can move the spoiler if you need to get a precise fit. (I recomend 8-9mm drill bit) Don't use a cordless drill -- not enough power. Use a good power electric drill. Be sure to paint the resulting bare metal with touch-up paint and seal the holes with silicone adhesive sealant.

Or even simpler, go to a dealer and order a new spoiler for full price where it will come with a template. Use the temlate to drill the holes and return it to the dealer and just say that your wife just happenned to get one for your birthday.
