If the lifespan of the switch with new part number is good, that savings might be worth it. Otherwise, eeuroparts.com sells it for $118. The switch was a DIY for me and kinda fun in the end, but it is an "upper end" DIY job. It took me longer than some folks. (I have a past post on this.) If you have a manual transmission, I guess that's harder. Budget 4 hours for the job; have T15, T20, and T25 sockets, a 6" extension for your socket; and be happy if done in 2-3 hours.
I'm working on an Ph.D. in Economics (health econ). What about you? Entering my final year so hopefully I will employed by this time in 2004!
The NG 900 is way too expensive to be a good grad student car unless you DIY stuff. I started 5 years ago with my 1983 900T; that was an ideal grad student rig. It was dying a slow death due to rust, however, and then I inherited my 1994 900 (w/a blown head gasket) for free from my dad, so I gave the '83 away with 203,000+ mi on it. Still miss it though.
