Engine surge after CEL - opinions?

1994 900 SE turbo
105,000 km
Just after I left the dealer (had base boost adjusted) I noticed the boost gauge stuck between white and yellow, so I turned back. The engine threw a CEL just as I turned back in. The mechanic who did the work checked it and found the vac hose to the MAP sensor had popped off, so he put the hose back and reset all the error codes. When the car was started, great! No more codes, idled nicely. But when the engine was revved up, it started cycling between 1500 and 2000 rpm, up and back, wouldn't stop until the engine was turned off.
We tried changing everything related; MAP sensor, TPS, IAC - nothing helped.
He finally disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnected it.
The problem seems to have gone away after that (his explanation was that it could be the ECU 'remembering' the adaption for the MAP sensor fault and it was trying to compensate).
On the two short drives I've had so far it has behaved itself. Has this ever happened to someone else? I'm looking for a bit of reassurance here that the mechanic's opinion is correct, and that I'm not suddenly going to be stuck with a bucking bronco in rush-hour traffic...
TIA
Vincent
