MAF failure
Very interesting. Many MAF problems occur, but this is the first MAF failure that I have seen reported on a Saab, at least the NG900 N/A's or 9-5's.
So you have the old one. Sometimes they will respond to a spray cleaning with a 'plastics safe' electronics cleaner. The cleaner cannot contain silicones or be designed to leave a lubricating film. It sounds like yours was rapidly getting bad in the end, perhaps past hope.
(This type of cleaning on MAFs on diesels will increase the measured air flow reading and the ECUs will then inject more fuel. That produces a resortation of power. Diesels don't care about lean burn, they burn lean most of the time.)
