There is a thermal cutout on the compressor that will fail open if it cycles a bunch. It is not made to cycle. Find the connector in the wire going to the compressor. Cold engine, engine off. Open the connector and measure ohms to ground via the compressor. If an open circuit the thermal switch has failed, otherwise things are good. Now start the engine and turn on the A/C. Is there 12V at the wire that goes to the compressor? If you have no voltage, then that is why the compressor does not run. If the refrigerant pressure is low, the switch at the reciever/dryer behind the grill will not allow the compressor to be energized.

Why would the thermal cutout on the compressor cycle? Usually because the anti frost switch at the evap is defective. If the thermal cutout has failed, replace it and the antifrost switch on the evap.

What was the low side pressure after you recharged? Any chance that you overcharged? Around 32-33 PSI would be a good number with the compressor running, fans on high, recirc off, doors open.

Do the trouble shooting above and see what you find. Also with a cold engine, compressor obviously not running, measure the pressure at the low side. This pressure will be a function of the ambient temperature, but should be relatively high.
