Hello all,
Well I took off my old rims about 3,800 miles ago and got Viking Rims and GoodYear RSA tires. 1 rim is slightly bend and it happens to be the front passenger side rim. I can feel the shake of the bent rim at 45mph. It's very slight and I can live with it. But once I hit 50mph through 75mph the steering wheel grows very loose and shakey. It's apparent on acceleration, going up hill, and sometimes on flat surfaces as well as going down hill. Very annoying. When I hit 80mph all is disappeared accept for a slight feel in the wheel like a skip of a beat....I suspect this is the bent rim. When I had the old rims it did the same exact thing. I had the suspension looked at it and the mechanic said it looked fine, this was about 4 weeks ago. I do recieve the clunk when shifting into drive and reverse. Car is automatic. I've heard this is brought on by old and broken engine & transmission mounts. Another mechanic who never saw the car but listened to my problems said that it sounded like a wheel bearing. He said that he was currently fixing a 9-3 that had cracked a rim, replaced it, and still had a vibration. The wheel bearing fixed it. My CV boots or joints are NOT cracked or failing. So does anyone have any ideas??? I am planning to get the car speed balanced on the Hunter system when the tires have 5,000 miles on them. Please help and shed ideas!!! Thanks in advance.
