Idle RPM and low torque...

Hi all,
New to a -94 900 2,3 non-turbo, hence a few questions !
Whenever starting from cold the RPM is steady around 900 and not increased during the warm-up period as on many other cars. Is this normal on a 900 2,3? Also IMO very low torque when starting on 1 st gear and clutch engages, easy to stall if not careful and slip the clutch a bit...
Maybee a cleanup with some petrol additive would help ? When idling the idle seems to be steady on the rev-counter BUT feels a bit uneven due to some vibrations noticed.
BR, Carl.
