I'll start by stating this is just my .02 worth...
94 900SE V6. Had stock size 195 60 15 Yokos. Very good all-around, all-season performance. I bought a set of 225 50 15 Dunlop high performance tires on 7.5" rims. These really looked cool on the car, and yes, on dry pavement it cornered really well. The downside was they were very noisy, tended to hydroplane in the rain, and any unevenness in the pavement caused the car to move all over. And of course these were strictly a fair-weather tire here in Michigan. I went back to the stock wheels, and a new set of 195 60 15 Coopers. The car drives like a dream again, in ALL conditions. The ONLY thing these stock size tires don't do better than the wide Dunlops is corner as hard.
Here's my take on this subject: Saab (or any car company) pays big bucks to their engineering groups to determine the best size tire for their cars. Who the heck am I to think I'm smarter than they are?
I strongly recommend 195 60 15 all-season tires for your 94 900. If you really want high performance buy a Viggen, which Saab engineered for fatter tires!
