You can do the job yourself, if you are so inclined. The special tool is nothing more than a sleeve to press the new oil seal in place with uniform pressure about the circumference of the seal.

I made my own "tool" with a nylon washer with the same I.D. and a slightly smaller O.D. as the seal. I slipped the seal on the shaft, then the nylon washer, then a piece of tubing slightly longer than the shift rod. I drove the seal in place by tapping with a hammer on the end of the tubing. The nylon washer distributes the pressure from the tubing uniformly about the face of the seal.

The old seal is a snap to remove by prying out with a small screwdriver.
