Put mine on last Friday.
I started with the bottom bolt, as it is simply a nut on a protruding bolt/post. Loosened that up a good few turns. Then I started on the top screw.
The stock clamp is basically just the top of the 'upgraded' clamp, over a big rubber grommet. This is where the deflection is. The rubber piece has a slit at the bottom, which allows you to wriggle it free.
On installation, I started with the back on, bottom first, then fought to get the top on. It's tight, but that's why it works. While no clamp is there, just see how much you can move the steering rack if you want to get an idea of how much play there is.
I took pictures and would be more than happy to send them when I get home from work if you need me to.
