How I "fixed" my coolant leak (V6 head gasket issue?)

For background, read the linked post below. I have not fixed my coolant leak at all, but I'm 99% sure that it is due to (1)leaking head gasket or (2)microscopic warp or crack in the head or block or (3)both.
Short history: 6000 miles after previous HG replacement, I was once again gobbling down coolant very fast when driving in the city with lots of short trips with several cool/warm/expand/contract cycles during the day. Road trips caused virtually no coolant loss. I was getting the tail pipe clouds after cold starts, etc.
I have "fixed" my problem by venting the coolant cap each night. About an hour or so after I get home each night, I open the expansion tank cap and let the air bubble out. This has slowed the coolant loss by at least a factor of 4, enough so that I don't worry so much about it.
If I let the car sit overnight, there is less gas to vent when I open the expansion tank. But I still get an audible "pop" and a rush of some gases out of the expansion tank. I don't think that there should be any gases coming out of the expansion tank after the car sits overnight--any thoughts?
