Is it coming out through the expansion tank cap? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: coolant leak/overflow, Ben Y, Tue, 14 Oct 2003 08:39:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Maybe the low speed cooling fan have died and only high speed is kicking in (almost at boiling).
The tempgauge in cluster on modern cars are designed a little bit different than 10 year ago.
Car manufacturers got tired of customers complaining as soon as the needle went a hair above middle on gauge and they came up with a temp delay function in the electronic part of gauge.
This means that between two levels of coolant temperatures, the gauge is going to show excactly normal temp without any fluctuations. Not until the engine temp reaches the upper treshold of that setting does the needle go to the next level on gauge.
So your car could be on the brink of overheating/overflowing (depending on what the threshold is set on),but the gauge is still showing normal.
It could also be an expansion cap that have gone bad and allowing the coolant to escaped at low pressures, or a thermostat that starts to go bad.
