At least that is the general concensus on this BB. Change oil (Mobil 1 ) and filter evey 5,000 miles for mainly city driving (or if towing, extreme temperatures, and extreme high speed driving, extremely dusty, etc.) and change at 10,000 miles if you are a traveling salesman or commute more than about 25 miles each way on the highway. :o)
These 'rule of thumb' change intervals appear to be validated by those BB posters doing engine oil analysis. The recommendations might be a little conservative, but better conservative than ruin an engine.
PS - I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles with 5,000 miles oil and filter change intervals. I have not had a single oil related failure of any component, ever. Even my beloved 900T never had a single internal engine component replaced and had the original turbo after more than 200,000 miles.
