Hi mikejavo,

I switched my '90 900 over to synthetic at 200,000 Km (120k miles) with no problems. And for the past year, I've been running M1 15W-50 in it with no start-up problems down to 12°F (that's as cold as I tried it last winter here in Northern Colorado). I switched our '99 9³ over to M1 0W-40 at 20k miles, & everything's been fine there too.

In your area I'd definitely go with either M1 0W-40 or Mobil's synthetic Delvac 1 5W-40. I've heard the D1 is available in Canada at WalMart, & it will give you even better protection than M1 0W-40. D1 provides a slightly better oil film & additive package than M1, & if I could find it here as easily & cheaply as I can find M1, I'd use nothing else.

In both cars I simply started using syn oil straight away, but if I were to do it again I'd run an application of Auto-Rx first. (Actually, I'll be using it at my next service for both cars. That will be at 165k miles for the C900, & 50k miles for the 9³.) I think this stuff is the safest way to remove unknown & unwanted deposits from an engine.
