You forgot to add cost for a new cable, which is a must. Presume kit includes a throwout bearing, if not add that too. Also may need the bushing on top of the tranny where the cable actuator is located. You dont want to go into there again for an inexpensive part. Anders had a post on this a few months back.
I think the shift linkage on the 96 model IS the improved one. I retrofitted it on my 1994 and the car shifts great years later. I would not replace if you are not having problems.
I am still on my original clutch at 131k, my rear seal has been leaking for years, and I am still waiting for my clutch to wear out. If you are not having clutch problems, you may consider the alternative...cardboard on the garage floor.
