major noises or rattling when they bend, just a sudden loss of compression.
On the other hand, if one of the valve plates breaks off of the stem, it can make a hellish noise when that plate is moving around inside combustion chamber and getting hammered between piston top and cylinder head.
I haven't heard yet about a Saab V6 owner that got away with a broken belt and no major internal damage.
Especially if they tried to restart the car several times.
