Okay, I know that, in the opinion of many, the V-6 installed in the 1995 900 SE is arguably one of the WORST engines produced in modern times.

Since February of this year (2003) I have had a number of serious problems related to the oil system (starting about 85K). First, it was determined that my valve cover was warped and while making that repair, it found that the heat exchanger was cracked, resulting in a mixing of oil and coolant. [At that time, one machanic told me to sell the car and put as much distance between me and that cursed engine as poossible.] A few weeks ago I started to leak oil again and it was both the valve cover gasket and oil sensor. The sensor and valve gasket were replaced; this new gasket blew-out again within days of being replaced and had to be replaced [third gasket]. The dealer said I probably also had an Oil Pan leak. I took the car to another area dealer and they checked the engine and said the pan was fine but the leak was either from the Head Gasket or the Cam Seals.

I had the timing belt replaced at 97K.

Are catastrophic oil system failures common on this design?

What should it cost to replace the Cam Seals? How many hours involved?

What is the cost to replace the Head Gasket? How many hours involved?

Is their anything else I should have done while having either one of these repairs done? [Other than blowing-up the engine.]

Has anyone else seen this many problems related to the oil system?

Any input would help and is much appreciated.

THANKS,

Pat

PS - Anyone want to buy a SAAB 900 SE cheap, ha.

I appear to have either a Head Gasket or Cam seal leak.
