Right after I bought my 95 900S 2.3L with about 100k miles, I started hearing this great whistling sound from the front left. What had happened was that the plastic vacuum-controlled air flow diverter valve had literally started to fall apart, and the AIR pump flow had started to go everwhere but into the pipe. I didn't cause a CEL at that point, but the valve was toast (burnt by the exhaust air coming back thru the pipe. Check the valve and the pipes running from the valve to the exhaust manifold to see if they're missing/cracked/leaking/clogged - could be the problem. if it's the valve itself, it's a pain in the "you know what" to get to.....
